And the App Store popularized third-party add-on programs on a handheld computer, to the tune of more than 225,000 apps and more than 5 billion downloads.

Cisco revels in simplicity with Flip SlideHD and Valet router
By Edward C. Baig, USA TODAY

Few things are more frustrating than setting up a home router. And many non-techies are equally hassled (or just won't buy) camcorders that have excessive and complicated features.

You wouldn't normally think camcorders and routers belong in the same breath. Cisco Systems does. The company behind Linksys wireless networking gear has expertise in the boxes that deliver the Internet to your home network. And Cisco owns the dirt-simple Flip Video line of camcorders, so it also knows about selling no-frills but exceedingly popular video cameras.

Malware

3/18/2010

It seems that malware also known as spyware is becoming more prevalent as we are receiving more calls about this. Malware can cause your pc to run slow and or cause those annoying popups. It can even compromise the data on your pc The most important thing people can do is become proactive instead of reactive. Download software that will protect you and keep it updated. As there is no guarantee even with software shields in place that you will not get infected. You need to have installed and up to date spyware removal tools.

Here are some links to download free preventive and removal tools.

Spybot Search and Destroy  This is a good tool. It can help prevent malware and also help clean it up if you do get infected.

Microsoft Defender   This is Microsoft tool that comes preinstalled in Vista. But XP has a version also. It is not the best but it is free and works inside of the operating system.

Malwarebytes  This is another good tool. This one does removal only.

Some antivirus now have some malware blockers such as AVG.

The tools listed will work but the key is keeping them up to date.

Flash Memory Density Doubled

3/18/2010

Intel and Micron Double the Capacity of Flash Memory
Read the full article here.

BY Neil Savage // March 2010

16 March 2010—Flash memory stores data permanently without draining the battery, but it packs less data in a given space than hard drives do. It’s looking better, though, now that Intel and Micron Technology have produced a flash chip with features measuring only 25 nanometers, down from the standard 34 nm.

By doubling the storage capacity, the achievement makes it possible to produce cheaper and more powerful smart handheld devices. A more intriguing possibility is using flash drives in a wider range of laptop computers than has been possible at today’s prices. As a replacement for a rotating magnetic hard drive, flash enables a laptop to turn on instantly, subsist on less power, and survive drops more easily.
